The myth about cancer as a non curable disease is busted now. Though people scare for cancer disease since its recognition due to its deadly nature and non-availability of drugs, now cancer treatment is possible all over the world including India. Cancer treatments in India is modernized now with all modern infrastructures of instruments, facilities, availability of cancer specialists. Cancer is one of the most common reasons of deaths worldwide. India has both public and private sector institutes of cancer treatments and research. Therefore, medical tourists searching for cancer treatments can come to India to get rid off of this deadliest disease and rejuvenation of new life.
In clinical terms there are various types of cancer such as-lung cancer, ovarian, rectal, colon, brain, blood, breast, bone, stomach, skin, etc. The malignant tumors of all cancer are life threatening and even benign tumors have the possibility of danger. The hospitals and institutes (more…)
Prostate Cancer 101
29/04/10
Before beginning this outline, let me first say that this information is presented from a traditional, conventional approach to the treatment of prostate cancer, not alternative which is what I advocate. These are processes which one can expect if receiving conventional treatment.
Prostate cancer is a disease in which cancer develops in the prostate, a gland in the male reproductive system. It may cause pain, difficulty in urinating, erectile dysfunction and other symptoms and is most often discovered by PSA (prostate specific antigen) screening and less commonly by physical examination or by symptoms.
Prostate cancer is uncommon in men less than 45, but becomes more common with advancing age and the risk can be decreased by modifying known risk factors, such as decreasing intake of animal fat. Prostate cancer is the ninth most common cancer in the world, but is the number one non-skin cancer in United States (more…)
Men have always been less likely to get medical attention than women, especially for minor problems which often serve as warning signs for a more serious underlying illness. You may have prostate symptoms right now that mimic prostate cancer symptoms. If you do get diagnosed with prostate cancer it’s important to know that many men, especially those later in life, have made the decision with their doctors to simply watch and wait rather than undergo conventional cancer treatment. Many men decide to make dietary changes and work on approaching it with natural treatment.
To state it simply, cancer that grows in the prostate gland is called prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is characterized by the ‘grade’ and ’stage’. The grade is given to indicate how quickly a cancer is growing – the higher the grade, the more likely it’s that the cancer will grow and spread rapidly (more…)
It may seem that we have a long way to go before most people have access to truly integrative cancer treatment. Academic medical centers have not yet sufficiently integrated CAM services into their conventional care models. According to research by Dr. David Eisenberg and his colleagues at the Harvard Medical School Osher Institute, none of the 39 randomly selected academic medical centers that integrate complementary and alternative medicine services into conventional care had written policies concerning credentialing practices or malpractice liability for CAM therapies, and only 10 reported a written policy governing use of dietary supplements.
The good news is that just a few years ago, very few academic medical centers were even considering an integrative medical model. Today, several integrative cancer clinics and hospitals exist in the United States. These facilities offer conventional treatments such as radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery, but they also offer nutritional support, including supplements, (more…)
Getting rid of cancerous tumors has never been much of a problem for doctors. The problem is in killing or removing the cancer without doing the same to the patient. Radiation therapy has long been among the best treatments for cancer. Radiation destroys the cancer tissue, but it also damages healthy tissue. Furthermore, since exposure to excessive radiation increases the odds of getting cancer, cancer treatment can actually be the cause of a reoccurrence of cancer.
Since the beginnings of radiation therapy, focusing the radiation exclusively on cancerous tissues and avoiding exposure to healthy tissue has been a goal that radiation oncology has always strived for. The more a radiation oncologist is able to avoid radiation exposure to healthy tissue, while focusing larger amounts of radiation on cancerous tissue, the higher the survival rate becomes and the lower the side effects of treatment.

Breast cancer and the long term side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, stretches the emotional well-being to the limit of over 200,000 patients each year in the U.S. alone. When you take into account friends, family and extended family, the number becomes even more staggering. That the breast cancer story doesn’t always end with successful treatment, makes it even more difficult to handle.
Shortly after diagnosis the volumes of information to sort through can be overwhelming. But as time moves on, it’s important to get the facts about what long-term side effects to watch for after you or someone close to you receives treatment for breast cancer.
Experiences may differ greatly or they may be eerily similar. A co-worker of mine succumbed to breast cancer after it had metastasized to her brain, but the tumors had gone unnoticed since her head had never been (more…)
As medical breakthroughs are discovered every day and preventions, cures and treatments become available for hundreds of diseases, cancer remains the number two cause of death for men and women in the United States behind heart disease.
This does not mean that cancer research is void of major breakthroughs or that it is not coming along as fast as advancements in other fields. It simply indicates that while new treatment technologies, such as radiation therapy are being developed and researched, they are not being accomplished at the same rate as diabetes, influenza, and cardiovascular disease treatment and preventions.
One of the problems with cancer treatment is that it is difficult to establish prevention techniques, to some degree. While doctors and scientists have learned that tobacco, asbestos, and other carcinogens can cause the disease; there are no strict guidelines that can guarantee a person will be free from cancer.<br (more…)
How to cope with cancer
20/03/10
Shock, disbelief, anxiety, fear, and even anger – these emotions are all expressed by those on the receiving end of a cancer diagnosis. It has been reported that at least half of all newly diagnosed cancer patients have significant difficulty in coping with their illness.
* Your Feelings
Fear and anxiety can be a very real problem when you’re dealing with cancer. Just the word “cancer” conjures up mental images of suffering and death for some. Many cancer patients are afraid not only of the disease itself but also of the treatment. Cancer treatment is traditionally associated with painful surgical procedures and other treatments with disturbing side effects. Fear of uncontrolled pain and suffering is also an issue with new cancer patients.
* Your Family
Fear and anxiety aren’t limited just to the cancer patient. A diagnosis of cancer affects the entire family. (more…)
Provenge, has been labeled by the media as a “cancer vaccine”. It is
not a vaccine.
Provenge therapy has been proved effective in treating late stage
prostate cancer. The method used for treatment, is to draw blood from
the patient, separate the cells, add the antigen, and infuse patients
with their own treated blood. In Provenge therapy, the antigen causes
the patients immune system to attack the prostate cancer cells.
Provenge has shown itself efficient for its purpose in all six clinical
trials. This treatment has only been used in late stage cancer treatment.
Patients in these studies using traditional cancer treatments had an 11%
survival rate after three years. Patients using Provenge treatment had a
34% survival rate after three years. I find this evidence enough to begin
mainstream use of the Provenge therapy. There are not many good options in
the treatment of late stage (more…)
There are many types of cancer that people may suffer from but one thing that stays similar is the types of medication that they may be using. There are many forms of medication that you may be prescribed with various types of side effect to go with each. Your doctor will go over your particular case with you and determine which type of treatment is the best.
Your cancer treatment may consist of such treatments as Cancer Chemotherapy drugs , Hormone therapy, Biological therapy, Alternative and complimentary therapy and of course drug treatment. Chemotherapy uses anti-cancer drugs which are done intravenously, by mouth, Injectable and topical applications. They stop the growth of cancer cells as they destroy the cells. This type of treatment is usually done in cycles. They will usually alternate treatments with rest periods to allow the person to recuperate.
Some of the anti-cancer (more…)
