Product Description
Concepts, Mechanisms, and New Targets for Chemotherapy describes new interconnections between rationally designed and empirically discovered compounds. One route that has not been travelled previously is that of protein kinase C inhibition. This pathway may be exploited to give potent inhibitors, such as the bryostatins, now in clinical trial. A summary is given of the current status of topoisomerase, focusing on recent clinical advances with camptothecin analogs based on connecting empiricism with concepts of drug selectivity. Modification of existing therapies based on the pursuit of leads arising from mechanistic studies is also being applied clinically on a wide scale. Greater understanding should follow from the studies of reversal of the multidrug resistant phenotype, on the use of hydroxyurea to reverse resistance mediated by extrachromosomal DNA, and on various aspects of the fluoropyrimidine pathways. Successful applications of chemotherapy to the treatment of specific diseases include the growing applications of systemic therapy using various skin malignancies. In prostate cancer, estramustine phosphate will likely play an expanding role. Taxanes are restructuring treatment regimens in breast cancer, and high-dose strategies are described with peripheral blood progenitor autografting in the treatment of ovarian and breast cancers.

Concepts, Mechanisms, and New Targets for Chemotherapy

Feeling overwhelmed with the challenge of cancer? Want to take control of your life and treatment? I can help you. I can show you options which work permanently to control your cancer in a gentle, non-toxic way. You can learn how to locate a doctor to supervise your care who is sympathetic to these treatments.

It is no longer necessary to settle for the “big three” of conventional cancer treatment — surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Today’s cancer patients die for only three reasons: 1) Lack of information; 2) Lack of discipline; and 3) Blind trust in their cancer doctors.

MY STORY

On November 1, 1994, my former wife, Marjorie, passed on. She had lived a wonderfully productive and really unique life. I loved her dearly.

Watching her being treated by the conventional cancer “system” etched memories that will never go away. I was puzzled and frustrated (more…)

Chemotherapy and you a guide to self-help during cancer treatment

Provenge, has been labeled by the media as a “cancer vaccine”. It is

not a vaccine.

Provenge therapy has been proved effective in treating late stage

prostate cancer. The method used for treatment, is to draw blood from

the patient, separate the cells, add the antigen, and infuse patients

with their own treated blood. In Provenge therapy, the antigen causes

the patients immune system to attack the prostate cancer cells.

Provenge has shown itself efficient for its purpose in all six clinical

trials. This treatment has only been used in late stage cancer treatment.

Patients in these studies using traditional cancer treatments had an 11%

survival rate after three years. Patients using Provenge treatment had a

34% survival rate after three years. I find this evidence enough to begin

mainstream use of the Provenge therapy. There are not many good options in

the treatment of late stage (more…)

Doctors will try different medications before referring you to a medical oncologist. If you are referred to one that would imply that your prostate cancer has reached an advanced stage. They would then be speaking about Chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy will destroy the cancer cells by interfering with their growth and reproduction. Chemotherapy can be performed either by administering drugs or by performing surgical operations. In some cases, it could be a combination of these two. Chemotherapy can in some cases be very effective the prostate cancer but will not cure it.

The known side-effects are chemotherapy are nausea, hair losses and mouth sores. A new technique called fractionated dose will diminish those side-effects.

Two common chemotherapy drugs are Mitoxantrone as well as Corticosteroids. The other drugs that are used for chemotherapy are rednisone, Paclitaxel and Docetaxel. The final brand which is becoming more and more (more…)

There are several options available for the detection, diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer. The following are the normal procedures employed to determine whether a patient has skin cancer: A pathological examination (biopsy) procedure on a portion of the abnormal-looking growth to determine the presence of cancer cells. This can be accomplished in any of 3 methods: shave biopsy wherein a surgical razor is used to shave-off parts of the suspected growth; punch biopsy wherein an instrument called a trephine is used to remove a circle of tissue from the growth and excisional biopsy wherein the entire growth is removed surgically with the use of a scalpel. In the traditional method of treatment, there are four options available. For superficial skin cancer Mohs micrographic surgery is the most common procedure wherein the tumor is gradually incised from the affected area of the skin in very thin layers and examined microscopically to (more…)

This article is about the use of Insulin Potentiation Therapy (IPT) for people with cancer. IPT has been known about for many years as a kinder, gentler way of using standard chemotherapy drugs, selectively delivering them to the cancer cells, whilst leaving the body’s immune system intact.

Insulin Potentiation Therapy, generally referred to by the initials IPT, is an alternative treatment that uses standard, approved cancer-fighting drugs in much lower doses, thereby eliminating many of the debilitating side effects so common with conventional chemotherapy. The side effects are significantly reduced because the chemotherapy doses can be as low as 10-15% of the standard dosage.

IPT was developed by Dr. Donato Perez Garcia (1896-1971) in Mexico, who claimed it to be especially effective with breast cancer. Indeed, that if a cancer can be beneficially influenced by existing chemotherapy drugs, then IPT may also be effective, but without major side (more…)

For people suffering from cancer, especially for those younger, having children could play a very important role in improving the quality of life. In these cases, the oncologists don’t remind their patients of the high risks involved by cancer therapies for the fertility. Here we present some options and some answers for those suffering from cancer:

In 2 recent studies, answering to the question of fertility discussions between the treatments between the medical staff and the patients, the statistics show that only 57-60% of the patients recall of having a discussion on the effects of the cancer treatments over fertility even though all the subjects aged under 40.

What are the options for men?

One of the easiest ways to be able to conceive after the cancer treatment is sperm banking. Unfortunately, statistics show that not to many eligible men use this technique. Only 25% of men (more…)

Prostate cancer treatments include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, palliative, curative therapy and so on.

Because each man is different, it is often difficult for doctors to decide what the best form of therapy to use is. On that note, we can discuss a few of the treatments to help the reader understand what each entails.

Curative treatment:

Curative treatment is a common strategy that many doctors will use to treat prostate cancer, especially if the cancer is confined to the gland, or the symptoms are troublesome and put the man at risk of death. Most times the cancer is rapidly growing. This type of therapy is also known as definitive. It can help men with small, growing cancer that spreads out slowly. The therapy can benefit men that have developed cancer outside of the prostate gland as well. The therapy has proven to prolong life, reduce or even eradicate critical (more…)
